WireLS Tournament Rules

All WireLS events will be played using the 1.07 modified version of Links 2003.

Events open at 7p.m. U.K. time on the specified opening date, this will usually be a Wednesday and files must be e-mailed to the Tournament Director to reach him by no later than 9 a.m. U.K. time the following Tuesday.

WireLS events may be played using any swing method in the game with the exception of Easy Swing. Pro, Champ or Elite skill levels will be used, Amateur & Novice levels are not acceptable.

For each event a MOP file will be made available for download on the Event Details page, this will be preset with most of the game settings including the disabling of putting assistance and mulligans, use of putting assistance is strictly outlawed, the MOP file is normally stored on your computer in the following folder.

C:/Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/Links 2003/Mop

The highlighted folder is hidden, be sure to set explorer to show hidden files in the folder options.

Custom Pins settings will also appear on the Event Details page, be sure to set these correctly, there will be a 2 shot penalty for each incorrectly set pin for the host player and a 1 shot penalty for each pin if you are not the host.

For each event you will be required to submit files, which files are required will depend on the type of event played. The following files will be required for all events Score.TXT file, Verify file, Gamestat.TXT file

To save the Score.TXT file you must select the print option on the final scorecard, then select the option to print to text file only, it is preferable for you to rename the file relevant to the event played, this can be done before clicking ok in the print option but be sure the file ends with .TXT

The verify file is created by selecting the verify option on the final scorecard, again you'll have to enter a file name.

The Gamestats appear after the final scorecard, the procedure for creating of this file is the same as that of the Score.TXT file.

The verify file can be found in the Links 2003 folder in your My Documents directory, the two text files are to be found in the main Links 2003 directory.

For events that use a points scoring system one additional file is required, this is the MopTotal.TXT, the procedure for saving this file is the same as for the Score.TXT, this file will be found in the main Links 2003 directory.

All players will be issued a handicap, this will be adjusted to suit the players ability after each event, new players will start with a handicap of 4 (four shots added to your score).

For each nett shot under par, a player's handicap will increase by +0.30 up to and including nett 4 under par. At nett 5 under to nett 8 under par, the adjustment will double to +0.60 per shot. Then from nett 9 under par to nett 12 under par +0.90, nett 13 under par and better, the increase becomes +1.20 per shot.

Handicap reductions are slower and capped.

nett +1 = -0.20
nett +2 = -0.40
nett +3 = -0.60
nett +4 = -0.80
nett +5 & over = -1.00

Tied positions, other than for first place, will have there point awards added together and divided equally. Ties for first will be settled by using the countback system. If one player has a better gross stroke score (actual +/- handicap) then they are the winner, should there still be a tie it is decided on the back nine using back 9 stroke score (+/- half the handicap rounded up) if that still ties use the final 6 holes gross score (+/- one third handicap again rounded up, followed by the last 3 holes (+/- one sixth handicap rounded up) if still tied on the last six.

With regard to Stableford events countback is calculated as IRL using the points gained and not the strokes scored.

If a player drops a connection, or leaves a match for any other reason, and makes no attempt to restart the game he is eliminated from play. Any disputes should be reported to either the Tourney Director or who will make a decision on the round.

CTP and LD shots will be displayed on the final Leaderboard only so as players do not know what distances have been posted till the scoring tent closes.

All players should be treated with the same respect you would yourself expect to receive, harassment and verbal abuse by any method of communication are simply unacceptable, behaviour of this kind will result in the offender being warned (you'll be only allowed one) or their removal from the tour permanently.
